SCIAMACHY validation
Data access
SCIAMACHY operational products
SCIAMACHY operational products are distributed by ESA via D-PAC in
Oberpfaffenhofen. Access to this data can be obtained by the
Principal Investigators of the Envisat-AO approved proposals,
after accepting the terms and conditions for using Envisat data,
which you can find on ESA's EO Principipal Investigator Portal (click 'ESA Data Policy').
These terms and conditions include
among others: terms on intellectual property rights, conditions
for publication, reporting conditions, terms on onward
distribution of data, etc.
Furthermore, ESA provides one copy of the level 0 and the ESA
generated products at no charge to instrument providers DLR
and NIVR jointly. NIVR shares its data rights with BIRA-IASB
as co-funding agency. DLR and NIVR will distribute data to
selected national research groups. These research groups will be
listed in the Flight Operations and Data Plan (FODP). The
terms and conditions for the use of this data will be based on
the above mentioned terms and conditions.
After the commissioning phase SCIAMACHY data will be available
for other research groups against reproduction costs.
SCIAMACHY scientific products
Several institutes develop algorithms to retrieve products from
SCIAMACHY spectra. Some of these institutes are willing to make
preliminary scientific products available for validation purposes.
The goal is to improve the operational product development by
finding algorithm parameters responsible for specific error behaviour. Details on access to and availability of scientific
products can be found here.
Other Envisat data
MIPAS and GOMOS data are available for the SCIAMACHY
validation groups, provided they have requested
these data in their AO proposal. The same applies
for other Envisat data (e.g. AATSR). The MIPAS and
GOMOS data will be distributed via the User Services
Facility at ESRIN.
Ordering of SCIAMACHY operational products
The ordering of Envisat Atmospheric Chemistry (GOMOS, MIPAS, SCIAMACHY) products is detailed in this document (Word, 130 kB).
Validation data
A large amount of data will be collected during the
commissioning phase and the main validation phase.
These data will be distributed among the validation
groups via the NILU data centre NADIR
(NILU's Atmospheric Database for Interactive
Retrieval).
Use and dissemination of this data is regulated by the
SCIAMACHY validation data protocol.
All SCIAMACHY validation
scientists are urgently requested to sign this protocol before
the rehearsal period in October 2000.
Access to the Envisat Cal/Val database at NILU is restricted to those
scientists who have signed additionaly the
"Protocol for exchange of correlative data for the Envisat Calibration
and Validation campaign", send by NILU to all Envisat Cal/Val AO PIs
(contact
The N. Thanh, NILU, if you
didn't receive the latter protocol). Another protocol should be signed for getting access to ECMWF data via the NILU data base.
More information on the database can be found on the NILU CAL/VAL database webpages . These pages are constantly updated with news, technical information on the database, various HOWTOs (e.g. HDF installation of PC, HDF links). A general bulletin board (exchage forum) is accessible via these pages. In the near future the meta-data guideline document and a ASCII2HDF data conversion tool will be available for download on this web site.
