IMAPv1.1 has been validated by Dils et al. (2005). Frankenberg et al. (2006) show systematic differences over Australia between IMAPv1.1 on one hand and model results, FTIR data, and NOAA-CMDL on the other hand. Frankenberg et al. (2008a) show that this is due to errors in the CH₄ spectroscopy. Frankenberg et al. (2008b) show that errors in the Hitran H₂O spectroscopy lead to an overestimate of tropical emissions in IMAPv1.1. The updated H₂O and CH₄ spectroscopy are included in IMAPv5.0. Inversions including IMAPv5.0 data instead of IMAPv1.1 are more consistent with ground-based-station-only inversions (Frankenberg et al. 2008; Bergamaschi et al. 2009).
