- SCIAMACHY: New ESA level 1b and level 2 processors soon operational
A new version of the SCIAMACHY Level 1b and Level 2 baseline is close to going on-line. It is currently foreseen to activate the Level 1b Version 7 and Level 2 Version 5 processors at the end of January or beginning of February 2010.
Make sure to update your tools, if necessary, within 25 January 2010. Read more.

- SCIAMACHY Literature list of Validation articles updated
The literature database available on the SCIAMACHY website, which contains various validation articles, has been modified and updated.
One can now search for specific articles not only by SCIAMACHY product, but also by institution. This is easily done by picking the relevant product from the product list or menu, and clicking on the institution responsible for maintaining the product. You will then automatically receive a list with the relevant articles and their links.

- SCIAMACHY Validation Meeting
ESA has finished reprocessing the SCIAMACHY level 1 and 2 data with new processor versions (lv1-6.03 and lv2-3.01). The complete reprocessed
level 2 data set is now officially released and available to the scientific community.
On January 22 there was a quick-look validation meeting at SRON to identify if there were any major issues left with the lv2-3.01 dataset. The conclusion of that meeting was that the major problems found in version 3.00 were solved and that the dataset is ready for distribution.
We would now like to derive quantitative estimates of the uncertainties of the lv2-3.01 products: O3 and NO2 columns and profiles, cloud cover, cloud top height, cloud optical thickness, and absorbing aerosol index.
Therefore SCIAVALIG organizes a SCIAMACHY Validation Meeting on March 26, 2008 (Wednesday). The objectives of this validation meeting are to derive quantitative estimates of the uncertainties of the new level 2 (lv2-3.01) data set and to assess the impact of the new level 1 (lv1-6.03) and the use of m-factors on scientific level 2 products.
The meeting will be hosted by IFE/IUP (Bremen, Germany). For more details please contact SCIAVALIG .(4-2-2008)
- Status of SCIAMACHY reprocessing
Start of the reprocessing of level 1b (version 6.03) is planned for 2nd half of July 2007 and for level 2 (version 3.01) at the beginning of August. Level 1b
reprocessing will be initiated before level 2 reprocessing, level 2 reprocessing is expected to “catch up” quickly. Time for completion depends on
processing availabilities and the impact of recent changes in the ESA Ground Segment. Reprocessing is expected to be significantly faster that the 1st
reprocessing campaign. A consolidated estimate will be provided based on the first set of processed files. Dissemination will be via FTP. SCIAMACHY QWG plans
to provide a new processor baseline 1st quarter 2008. There will be a possible 3rd reprocessing campaign in the 2 nd half 2008. (28-06-2007)
- The new SCIAMACHY Off-Line Processor Version 3.00 was activated at the D-PAC on Monday 7 August. The processing started with orbit 22862, corresponding to the third orbit on 15 July 2006. Backlog processing of the data between the beginning of May and 15 July will be executed in parallel. NRT processing has been stopped since 8 May 2006, and will not be reactivated until further notice. A detailed description of the OL product can be found in the Product Specification Document. See also the Product Disclaimer. New features of this processor:
- Nadir UV/Visible algorithm for ozone and NO2 is based on the GDP (GOME Data Processor) Version 4.0
- Nadir UV/Visible algorithm for cloud-top height and cloud optical thickness based on the SACURA algorithm
- Limb UV/Visible products: Stratospheric Ozone and NO2 profiles
- Improved pointing performance through the use of the Envisat Restituted Attitude information in the consolidated Level 1b product.
All comments and questions should be directed to ESA's Earth Observation Helpdesk. (14-08-2006)

A new SCIAMACHY validation reference set is under construction. This set of a few thousand states will be processed first after the next processor upgrade, before reprocessing of the whole mission. Request for early-processing of specific states can be done before 30 August 2005. Read more.

The first bi-monthly SCIAMACHY Performance Report is now available on the
ESA website.
These reports will be issued once per two months. They are generated by the ESA/ESRIN Product
Control Service, and the SCIAMACHY Operations Support Team members at DLR/IMF
and the University of Bremen/IFE. ESA/ESRIN is supported by the Post-Launch
Support Office at ESA/ESTEC, and the Expert Support Laboratory at DLR/IMF.
The first report covers November and
December 2004.
The next report will exceptionally cover a longer period, to ensure future
reports are issued
routinely one month after the end of the reporting period. (03-05-2005)
